Scholarships for sociologists abound. The American Sociology Association reports almost 15,000 bachelor’s degrees in sociology were awarded in 1996. But in 2014, 35,000 degrees were earned. 1. ACJA/Lambda Delta Epsilon Scholarship
The American Criminal Justice Association is offering a sociology scholarship for undergraduate or graduate students majoring in criminal justice. You must be a member of ADJA/LAE, achieve a 3.0 GPA and have completed at least two semesters of ¾ of your education. Deadline – December 31, 2016.
Eligibility includes:
– U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen
– Fee of $40 with application
– Graduate – accredited post-graduate program master’s or doctorate
– Upper Division -enrolled in undergraduate degree program must have completed at least 70/105 semester hours of course work
Scholarship amounts – $100, $200 and $400.

2. American Society of Criminology Fellowships for Ethnic Minorities
African Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos or Native American students with a 3.0 GPA are eligible for a $6,000 scholarship provided by the American Society of Criminology, an organization whose members study scholarly, scientific and knowledge based on the measurement and treatment of crime and delinquency.
Recipients must have been accepted into a graduate program and will be selected based on transcripts, financial need and desire to pursue a career in criminology. References are also required. Deadline – March 1st.
3. Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia – COAG Scholarship
A Georgia high school senior and U.S. citizen enrolled in an accredited institution is eligible for the COAG Scholarship. Scholarships amounts are $500, $1,000 and $1,500.
Other eligibility includes:
– GED recipients (December 31, 2013 to May 31, 2014) who is a Georgia and U.S. resident graduating by the Spring of 2014.
– Georgia student and U.S. citizen enrolled in a state high school or accredited higher education.
Seeking a bachelor’s degree in a field related to government/law enforcement, political science, accounting/finance, business or pre-law.
A 1,000-word essay is required.

4. Renewable Admission Scholarship
A student registered for full-time study of arts, engineering, health sciences, science, social sciences, Telfer School of Management or the Faculty of Law is eligible to receive a scholarship from the University of Ottawa. Must have a cumulative GPA between 8.0 and 8.4.
Awards include: 80 – 100 percent of the following.
-$4,000/year for four-year total of $16,000
-$3,000/year for four-year total of $12,000
-$2,000/year for a four-year total of $8,000
-$1,000/year for a four-year total of $4,000
The scholarships are replaced by the Nortel Networks Admission Scholarships at the University of Ottawa.
5. Carla B. Howery Teaching Enhancement Grant
The Carla B. Howery Teaching Enhancement Grant supports teaching programs that promote the advancement of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) as defined by the Carnegie Foundation.
The primary criteria are the advancement of teaching and learning sociology and the continuation of a program for gradual, systematic impact.
Other eligibility includes:
– The grant funds an individual, program, department or committee or a state/regional association.
– May provide multiple grants of up to $2,500 and supports salaries, equipment, conferences, technology, travel, interview transcription an execution of surveys.
